Blood Pressure Log Terms Explained
Measuring and logging guide ยท Last reviewed November 2, 2026
A few terms come up again and again in a home blood pressure log. Here is what each one means in Home BP Log.
Systolic and diastolic
A blood pressure reading has two numbers, written like 124/78. The first is the systolic pressure and the second is the diastolic pressure. Home BP Log averages each of them separately.
Reading
One measurement from your monitor, with a systolic and a diastolic number.
Sitting
One measuring session, usually two readings about a minute apart. A sitting with only one reading is called a single, and it is reported as one.
Average
The sum of the readings divided by how many there are, rounded to a whole number. Home BP Log averages every counted reading once, and shows the count so you know how much data is behind the number.
Outlier
A reading far from the others. Home BP Log never removes outliers for you. It shows the highest and lowest readings so you and your clinician can see them.
Complete, partial, and insufficient
- Complete: enough readings, and every morning and evening session from days 2 to 7 has at least one.
- Partial: enough readings, but some sessions are missing. They are listed.
- Insufficient: fewer than 12 readings after Day 1.
