How to Keep a Blood Pressure Log

Measuring and logging guide ยท Last reviewed November 2, 2026

A blood pressure log is only helpful if it is complete and easy to read. Here is what to record and a few ways to keep it.

What to record for every reading

  • The date and whether it was morning or evening.
  • Both numbers: the systolic (top) and diastolic (bottom).
  • Which reading it was in that sitting, first or second.
  • Anything unusual, such as feeling rushed, a late night, or a missed meal.

Paper

A printed table is simple and needs no setup, but you have to add up averages by hand and it is easy to lose.

Spreadsheet

Easy to total, but you need to build the formulas yourself, and it is easy to average the wrong way.

An app or website

Home BP Log keeps readings together and works out the protocol averages for you, with counts, highest, lowest, and any missing sessions listed. The free calculator needs no account and saves nothing.

Whatever you use

Keep every reading, keep the morning and evening apart, and keep the same format for the whole log.
