Preparing Your Blood Pressure Log for a Doctor Visit
Measuring and logging guide ยท Last reviewed November 2, 2026
A tidy log makes a short appointment more useful. Here is what is worth bringing and how to present it so your clinician can use it quickly.
What to bring
- Your morning, evening, and overall averages, with the number of readings behind each.
- The highest and lowest readings, so nothing is hidden behind an average.
- Any missing sessions, so your clinician knows what the average is based on.
- The make and model of your blood pressure monitor, and the arm and cuff size you used.
Be complete, not selective
Include every reading, even unusual ones. Leaving out numbers you do not like or do not trust makes the log harder to interpret. If a reading had a known reason, such as you were rushed or just climbed stairs, write a short note beside it and let your clinician decide.
Questions you might ask
- Is this log enough, or should I measure for longer?
- Am I measuring at the right times, relative to my medicines?
- When should I measure again, and how should I get the results to you?
