Home vs Office Blood Pressure Readings

Measuring and logging guide ยท Last reviewed November 2, 2026

People are sometimes surprised when their home numbers do not match the numbers from a clinic visit. The two are measured in different circumstances, and each adds information.

Different settings

A clinic is a different place from your living room. The device, the cuff, how you got there, and how you feel can all differ.

More readings at home

A home log can contain many readings over days, while an office visit usually has one or two. That is why clinicians often ask for a week of home readings.

Technique matters at home

Readings are more useful when taken the same careful way each time. See the checklist in the measuring guide.

Bring both sets of information

Your clinician can compare your log with their own measurements and decide what they mean together.

Do not compare yourself

This site does not tell you whether your numbers are normal or not. Only your clinician can say what they mean for you.
