What to Note Alongside Your Blood Pressure Readings

Measuring and logging guide ยท Last reviewed November 2, 2026

The numbers are the main part of a log, but a few words of context can help your clinician read them.

Always include

  • Date, and morning or evening.
  • Both readings of the sitting.

Worth a short note

  • You were rushed, stressed, or in pain.
  • You had caffeine, exercise, or a large meal shortly before.
  • You slept badly or were ill.
  • You used a different arm, cuff, or device than usual.

Medicines

Ask your clinician whether to note when you take your medicines in relation to your readings. Follow their instructions, and do not change anything on your own because of a number in your log.

Keep notes short

One line is enough. Long diaries are hard to read in a short appointment.

Do not use notes to remove readings

A note explains a reading. It does not replace it. Home BP Log keeps every reading counted and visible.
